As a result, most mustache waxes need to be heated or warmed up to use. Let me know if I can help with anything else.Mustache wax can be made from several different base products, though, (as its name suggests), the most common of which is wax (more specifically beeswax).

The balm or oil will actually repel the wax and keep it from having the hold you are looking for. That should help you see much better success! A final tip would be to make sure you start with a clean, dry moustache that doesn’t have any beard oil or balm in it. pos=1&_sid=e80fafa66&ss=r (Please copy and paste as I can’t create a clickable link in the blog comments). You can check out our article on setting wax here: I typically use my wife’s hair dryer on the cool setting and hit the stache with it for 30-60 seconds. If you have done that, the final step is to actually set the wax by getting some cool air on it. I’m not sure if you are using our waxes or other ones, but if you are using ours, you need to make sure you warm the wax and apply properly. (Update June 2018) Our new video “How to Use Moustache Wax” shows you how to warm and apply moustache wax. Even the world champions of the full-beard with styled-moustache categories had to practice their waxing, and look at them now. Don’t get down on yourself if it doesn’t come out perfectly symmetrical, you will get better. Learning to wax your moustache takes time, patience, and practice. Like anything else, to get better at something you should practice it.

  • Not Practicing: Too obvious? Regardless, it was one that had to get driven home to me.
  • There are several different consistencies that moustache wax can come in, it is helpful to know how malleable the wax becomes, how much you will need, and if it is heat activated.
  • Not Knowing Your Wax: If it’s your first time using moustache wax, become familiar with it.
  • Give yourself a good cushion of time for styling your moustache to not feel rushed or pressured during the process.
  • Not Giving Yourself Time: Styling a moustache will take time, longer than you would think.
  • So be gentle, err on the side of caution.
  • Not Being Gentle: This may seem like a no-brainer, but I have accidentally pulled out several moustache hairs trying to get them to into shape.
  • However, wax is soluble in oils, and having a freshly oiled moustache can break down the wax as you are applying it.
  • Oiling Your Moustache Before Applying Wax: Wax is not water soluble.
  • So here’s a few mistakes that myself and the majority of beginners have made and have had to learn the hard way when waxing a moustache. That said, we found we were lacking in the “DON’T DO THAT!” category.
